WLA1 Server IP Renumbering
Hey friends,
The WLA1 server is running on rented IPv4 addresses from IPXO. This means that they are rented from a broker, not a direct deal with the owners of the IP range. The owners of the IP range have expressed their intent to reclaim this IP range in February. This has thrown a bit of a curveball at us, as our intention when taking over MyW was to keep the status quo for it's customers until we decided what we wanted to do with it's operations in the future (anything from expanding service offerings to a long term shutdown plan, with the latter being the least likely). We are still committed to keeping the status quo for it's customers, to the best of our ability to reasonably do so given the variables of our situation and yours. This wasn't one of the things we wanted to rock the boat with right now, but here we are.
On January 23rd at approximately 3PM US/Central time, we will be requesting that ReliableSite remove WLA1 from it's VLAN and place it on a shared VLAN with other customers of theirs. This will disconnect us from both our IPv4 and IPv6 addresses on the server. We will be assigned new addresses by ReliableSite at that time. They have unfortunately told us that they automate this process and will not be able to give us assigned addresses beforehand. This means at that moment we have to begin the transition, on the fly. If you are not using dns1.wndp.pt and dns2.wndp.pt as your nameservers, you will need to update your DNS manually at your DNS provider, and the worst of it is we can't tell you in advance what to replace it with. That is why this notice is important.
When the moment comes for us to switch the IPs over on the server, and we are aware of what the IPs will be, you can look up A and AAAA records for wla1.wndp.pt and that will tell you what the new IPs are. These are the current IPs for those lookups, meaning that if you see these IPs then you haven't yet witnessed the change:
23.26.125.3
2a05:dfc1:5800:3::a
UPDATE: The new IPv4 is 104.238.221.20. Update your A record to this IP.
The new IPv6 address will be: 2605:9880:200:400:135:7700:ef0a:1 and it will be active within 4-6 hours. Update your AAAA records to this IP.
If you are unaware of how to perform a DNS lookup, I hope that you are using us for DNS. If not, you may want to go ahead and familiarize yourself with how to do so: https://blog.udemy.com/dns-lookup-command/
Those using MyW to manage their DNS will require ZERO changes on their part. We will handle it.
How long this process takes is dependent on a few things. We've prepared our process as much as we can, and we're ready to start doing the work. The goal is for it to all take no more than an hour. The reality is not as easy to control as the goal implies.
